5 minutes with…Flower & White

Leanne Crowther, Co-founder & Commercial Director, tells us more about Flower & White, the business she co-founded in 2009 with her husband, Brian, born from a real passion for creating exceptional treats and a vision to make the best meringues in the world.

Why are Flower & White meringues so special? 
As the inspirational meringue brand, we’re dedicated to pushing the boundaries of product innovation, creativity & quality. With ground-breaking innovations such as our Meringue Bar, we continue to challenge the way we eat the trusty meringue. Our exceptional meringues are handcrafted in Shropshire using the best quality ingredients available including free range eggs & natural flavours and are slow baked to a traditional Swiss recipe. They’re gluten free and suitable for vegetarians.

Can you give us some ideas for how to use your meringues & your favourite serving suggestions?
Our meringues are a versatile addition to any range or menu – dollop or fill with cream, drizzle with coulis, crush into an Eton Mess, serve as part of an afternoon tea, use as a finishing touch to a cake – the serving ideas are endless. 

What tips would you give to retailers & delis on the best way to make the most of sales?
Be bold, go big – our giant loose meringues always sell better when brimming full, whether that’s in a bowl, basket or crate.Provide tongs and paper bags to create a pick and mix effect – the colours will definitely catch the customers attention! There’s no need to put stock away overnight as our meringues like to breathe. Upselling them with complimentary products such as coulis, curds & cream is a great way to inspire your customers to make a quick and easy dessert.  

What is your favourite product in the range? 
It’s hard to choose just one! But if you twist my arm, I would say the Raspberry Meringue bar – swiss baked meringue covered in Belgian chocolate and under 100 calories per bar – what’s not to love?! 

What is the question you are asked most often about your meringues? 
At the moment it’s ‘How can anything that tastes so amazing be under 100 calories?’

What does a ‘normal’ day look like for you? 
It doesn’t exist but luckily I’m highly motivated, always on the go and good at prioritising. I’m driven by a desire to win for everyone – for the business, for the customers and with the team. But most importantly, win with and for my family.

Running a business, especially within the food & drink industry, can be full on at times, what is your favourite way to take some time out?
A lover of fresh air and quiet to escape the noise, I practice yoga and became a vegetarian over 2 years ago.  I’m still striving to find work life balance.
