5 minutes with…Kingsdown Water

With January typically being a time to eat & drink more healthily, with many also looking for alternative to alcoholic drinks, Kingsdown Water have the perfect solution with their spring waters and delicious non-alcoholic pressés.

Jennifer Frewin-Clarke, Senior Sales Executive, tells us more about this Kent-rooted business.

Tell us a brief history of the company
The first bottle of Kingsdown rolled off the production line in June 1995. The business was founded by William Bomer and began life as a small family business. Since then Kingsdown has flourished – our production site and head office is based at the Kingsdown source on the North Downs, we have an established distribution depot in south east London, and Kingsdown is stocked by hotels, bars and clubs throughout the United Kingdom. We built upon the Kingsdown brand by launching a new range of drinks in 2015, Kingsdown Sparkling Pressés.

Why is Kingsdown special?
We only bottle Kingsdown Water & Kingsdown Sparking Pressé in glass as glass is the most sustainable material for packaging drinks. Glass is the only packaging material that is 100% recyclable, but also more importantly it’s infinitely recyclable. Kingsdown Water is also a carbon neutral product.

What is your favourite product in the range?
Our Rhubarb Sparkle is my absolute favourite, there’s nothing more refreshing on a hot summer’s day than an ice cold bottle straight from the fridge. Not only is Rhubarb Sparkle a tasty ‘grown up’ soft drink, it’s also the perfect mixer for many spirits. My favourite; gin & Rhubarb Sparkle over ice with a slice of lemon.

Where is your favourite restaurant in Kent to eat?
I’m lucky enough to live on the north Kent coast, not far from the famous Michelin starred restaurant The Sportsman, in Seasalter. Nothing beats a long walk along the gorgeous Kent coast followed by a meal at The Sportsman. The food is carefully prepared with dishes using local ingredients from the land and sea, all in a cosy low-key pub environment. Food always accompanied with Kingsdown Water of course!

What food & drink trends do you think we are going to see over the next 12 months?
Sustainable packaging will be high on the agenda across the whole drinks’ category. Consumers’ concern is growing for how their goods are packaged and many believe producers must bear the brunt of the responsibility.

Kingsdown Still & Sparkling Water and the full range of Kingsdown Pressés are available to order from Curd & Cure. Please see page 31 of our brochure for more information on pressés and page 104 for waters.
