A Quintessentially British Cheeseboard

A Great British cheese board is sure to be a hit with all,  and our extensive collection of cheeses includes a vast selection from some of the very best, hand picked British cheesemakers.

Specially for the Jubilee, Cheshire Cheese have released “Platinum Jubilee”, a four year old Extra Mature Vintage Cheddar available as 400g wheels.  Pair this with Hartington Creamery’s “Platinum Blue”, available as a 200g pre-pack wedge, and add some creamy Baron Bigod to complement, and you’ve got the starts of a delicious cheese or grazing board.

For those looking for a simple & waste free way to offer cheese and charcuterie boards, our Curd & Cure pre-packed British selections include pre-portioned cheeses and pre-sliced meats, meaning you just need to unwrap, plate and serve with no mess, and a guaranteed consistent portion size.

The Ultimate Street Party
What could be more British than a classic picnic spread or cold buffet as part of a street party or Jubilee celebration?  There are countless options within our Deli Tubs, pie and filling ranges, available both for retail & foodservice.

Alongside our ever-popular olives and med veg, our Deli Tubs range also includes pasta salads and couscous, providing a time saving, ready to serve option.  Serve straight from the tub, which may be resealed and kept in the fridge, or decant into your own bowls to give a more home made look.

For more cold treats, our pre-sliced Gala Pie is an excellent choice to display alongside our Deli Tubs, whilst Tailormade pies’ range includes pork piessausage rolls & quiches, all chilled and ready to serve.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a picnic without sandwiches and our pre-packed ham, chicken, turkey & beef provide a delicious filling, just add your favourite condiment and salad, slice & serve.  A super convenient option for retail, pre-priced and with handy shelf hangers for an easy way to display on shelf.

For the finishing touch, a good helping of snacks are always a good idea!  Kent Crisps are available in a choice of 7 delicious, locally inspired flavours, with selected varieties available in 150g sharing bags, great tipped into a bowl to serve alongside Ramona’s Heavenly Houmous.

And to keep everyone fuelled between feasting, Filbert’s nuts are a delicious option to offer as a snack or alongside drinks, with the range including cashews, peanuts, mixed nuts, olives and more.

A Very English Afternoon Tea

It goes without saying that desserts are certainly going form an important part of the celebrations, and with the British strawberry season now starting, don’t forget these all important pairings to take those sweet treats to the next level!

Flower & White’s twin pack meringues and meringue kisses provide a great base for Eton Mess & individual pavlovas, and are extra special when served with Coombe Castle’s Strawberry & Prosecco Cream.  Plus new for the Jubilee, their Salted Caramel Cream is a must-try, offering the perfect balance of sweet & savoury and a versatile option for desserts of all varieties!

We don’t need to tell you what a challenging 12+ months it’s been, and we are delighted to see so many of our foodservice customers re-opening their doors and welcoming people back inside.  Whilst we have continued to supply many of you as you have adjusted your offerings, we wanted to share an update on all we have been putting in place over the past year.  This is not only to improve & expand our product offering specifically for foodservice, but also to ensure that working with us as your wholesaler is as simple, smooth & problem free as possible.  It’s our goal to ensure that everything you need, from specialist cheese & charcuterie, to prepared foods & day to day ingredients are never far away.

Earlier this year we welcomed two new team members, Kevin Rose and Alanta Hale, who will be your dedicated foodservice points of contact, with Kevin as our Foodservice National Account Manager and Alanta as Foodservice Telesales Executive.

Kevin has over 20 years of experience of business-to-business food wholesale, is a passionate ‘foodie’ and enjoys speaking about food and learning from experienced chefs about their latest creations.  Working in the food and drink industry for this time has given him a real love and understanding of Regional and British products. He prides himself on his reliability as an Account Manager and takes pride in his ability to respond to customer needs professionally and efficiently.

Since joining Curd & Cure, he has worked hard to develop and build a new range specifically designed for the hospitality sector in mind, which we will be launching later this month.  If you would like a preview of the range, please get in touch with Kevin on 07493 423547.

Alanta brings with her a passion for all things food and has thrown herself into her role at Curd & Cure, developing an in depth understanding of our product ranges.  She is on hand Sunday – Thursday to take orders and answer any queries you may have on the foodservice range.

Alongside developing our foodservice range, we have also used our experience supplying our Retail & Deli customers over the past year to improve our service, including increased delivery areas and more regular deliveries, an additional Sunday telesales day, additional Monday delivery round and a new Whatsapp for business number.

We are delighted to launch our 2021 Retail & Deli Brochure, which is available to view online & download here. We are also able to send out a hard copy as well as full price list, please get in touch to request your copy.

We would also like to say thank you for your support, suggestions, patience and kindness that you have shown our team who have worked so hard trying to deliver the best customer service possible. We are so grateful to be a part of such a supportive and friendly industry and are constantly looking at improvements we can make to help our customers and ways to introduce you all to new and inspiring ideas and products.

Despite the challenges that last year brought, our team managed to produce and launch a new brochure in summer 2020. This included many new products that were hugely successful additions to our range. Following this we asked our customers to complete a customer survey to help guide us on what you would like to see next. It was so humbling to hear some of the positive stories for independent retailers in our industry that have come out of such a difficult time.

Apart from the stories of success, we had many suggestions of new products you would like to see in our range. In the 2021 Retail and Deli Brochure we have paid attention to food trends and listened to what you have asked for and hope you are as excited as we are about the ranges we have chosen. These include many new local products, speciality cheeses, an expanded Deli Tub range, increase in vegan & plant-based products and a few other exciting treats that we just could not help bring in for you! All this alongside our core range of cheese, charcuterie and specialist food & drink.

Thank you again for supporting us in to 2021, from all the Curd & Cure team.

It’s a longstanding tradition for consumers to turn to healthier eating habits to start the year, and a newer trend is to look for vegan options to explore during January for those giving Veganuary a go.  With this in mind, we’ve put together some of our very best healthy, vegan and veggie products, which will not only give your customers a great selection to choose from, but will also look great on shelf whilst supporting independent & British businesses.

A Little Bit
Made using fresh herbs, A Little Bit’s range is 100% vegan friendly and includes dressings, dips, ketchups and sauces as well as their most recently launched range of vegan mayonnaises.  The range is also perfect for those cooking at home – which is most of us for the time being – and will easily carry through into the spring & summer months, making them a great choice not just to start the year, but year-round too. (Page 10 & 11)

Creative Nature
With an aim to revolutionise the snacking industry, Creative Nature’s range is free from all top 14 allergens as well as being vegan, palm oil free and with totally recyclable packaging.  Their Flapjacks are a perfect mid-morning snack whilst working from home whilst their Gnawbles make a great treat for kids & adults alike!  All come in retail ready display boxes, ideal positioned as an impulse buy next to the till or as part of a wider free from section. (page 13)

Holy Moly
Made using just fresh, nutritious ingredients, with no dairy, gluten, sulphites or preservatives, Holy Moly’s guacamoles & breakfast avocado provide a quick & easy way to enjoy great tasting avocado without the mess (or seemingly impossible task of knowing when an avocado is perfectly ripe!).  Use as a dip, on sourdough, with tacos or alongside all sorts of dishes. (Page 28 & 29)

Deli Tubs Pesto
Excellent for a quick & easy light lunch or simple supper, use on a tomato & mozzarella or green salad, with grilled chicken, in wraps or sandwiches, for stuffed mushrooms on homemade pizza and for so many other delicious dishes.  Retail ready, priced with bright, eye-catching branding. (Page 27)

Kent Crisps

Made using real Kent products and featuring eye catching pack artwork that showcases the county’s iconic landmarks & landscapes, Kent Crisps Sea Salt & Vinegar with Biddenden Cider, Oyster & Vinegar, Smoked Chipotle Chilli and Sea Salt are all vegan friendly.  Available in 40g and 150g bags (Oyster & Vinegar 40g only).  (Page 14 & 15)

Great British Porridge Co
An excellent winter warmer, simply add hot water – no need for a microwave!  Only the highest quality, ethically sourced ingredients are used including luscious coconut milk, juicy dates and gluten free British wholegrain oats.  The full range is vegan friendly & gluten free. (Page 22)

Easy Bean Crackers
With a mission to create delicious ways to enjoy beans, peas & lentils, Easy Bean’s Crackers are a delicious savoury snack which are 100% natural, gluten free, suitable for vegans and with no added sugar.  They make a great accompaniment to dips & houmous and with each carton containing four handy packs, are excellent for a quick lunch or as part of a larger grazing platter. (Page 21)

Biddenden Apple Juice
A cloudy apple juice pressed from local, orchard ripe apples, Biddenden’s cloudy apple juice makes a delicious breakfast juice or is a tasty substitute for those looking to reduce their alcohol consumption.  No added sugar and not from concentrate, the juice may be stored & displayed ambiently and chilled to serve.  (Page 23)

Kingsdown
Another delicious no alcohol option, Kingsdown’s lemonade & presses are a blend of sparkling spring water blended with real fruit.  Excellent as a non-alcoholic option an also great as a mixer for both cocktails & mocktails. (Page 24)

Ramona’s Kitchen
Based on Mediterranean family recipes, Ramona’s Kitchen Houmous is available in Original as well as 4 delicious flavours, each of which is traditional & authentic and totally vegan friendly.  Use as a dip, in wraps, as a topper on toast or as part of a mezze board.  (Page 29)

Tim’s Dairy Greek style yogurts
Healthy, live & bio-active, Tim’s Dairy yogurts are made using fresh pasteurised British milk plus natural ingredients with no artificial colours, additives or preservatives.  Delicious on its own, served with fruit & honey, used as a luxurious topping for any dessert or as an ingredient in sauces & dips.  (Page 43)

Deli Tubs Cottage Cheese
Although cheese may not normally feature on a list of healthy foods, with a high protein and low calorie content, cottage cheese is often a popular choice for incorporating into a balanced, healthy diet.  Mix with fruit, top granola, blend into smoothies, use for baking or use as a substitute for milk in various recipes. (Page 27)

Vegan Cheese
The ideal solution for those looking to follow a vegan diet but who are also cheese lovers!  Choose from Norseland’s vegan cheese or vegan applewood – both available in 200g retail packs – and vegan mozzarisella, a mild tasting alternative to mozzarella, excellent for pizza as it slices & melts like a dream. We pride ourselves on working with some of the best artisan producers both from the UK and internationally, but being based in Kent, the Garden of England, we’re lucky to have a huge selection of food & drink producers right here on our doorstep.

We love finding food & drink which not only tastes delicious, but has great provenance as well as an interesting story and a passionate team behind it.  We’ve picked out a few of our Kent based suppliers to give you a little more of an insight into how their products are special and why they are essential both on the farm shop & deli shelves as well as in restaurants, pubs & catering outlets.

Cheeses
Winterdale Shaw
Made on the family farm in Shoreham, near Sevenoaks, Winterdale Shaw is the country’s first carbon neutrally produced & delivered cheese.  The milk is taken directly from their herd of around 100 Freisan Holstein cows, meaning it retains its natural characteristics as well as being at the ideal temperature for cheesemaking.  The cheese & curd is filled into cheese moulds & then traditional wood cheese presses, before being pressed for 3 days.  It is then wrapped in muslin and matured for around 10 months in their own caves to develop further flavour characteristics.  A cheddar style cheese, Winterdale Shaw is available both smoked & unsmoked as 5kg, 2.5kg, 1.25kgor retails packs.

Ellie’s Dairy
Producing a range of Goat’s cheeses, Ellie’s dairy is based on the North Downs where the goats have free range access to grazing as well as all feed, including hay, being made from their own ancient meadows which are GM and chemical free. Ellie’s goats’ cheese is a semi-soft cheese, made with vegetarian rennet and available as original, with chilli and with herbs.  The cheese is made by hand once a week in small batches and is best eaten young, as it has a fresh, clean taste.  A great addition to the cheeseboard, but also delicious added to salads or for cooking with. Available as individual retail packs.

Chaucer’s Camembert
Cheesemakers of Canterbury produce a wide range of both soft & hard cheeses.  Chaucer’s Camembert is handmade using pasteurised cows’ milk before being aged for 3-6 weeks.  It is a well-balanced cheese which is rich and creamy with a deep, long flavour. Produced in small 150g rounds, this cheese will sit perfectly on the cheese board or its size makes it perfect as an induvial baked cheese for foodservice or enjoyed at home.

Snacking
Captains Crackers
Picking up another three 1* and a 2* award at this year’s Great Taste Awards, the Captain’s Crackers make a fantastic accompaniment to many cheeses.  Based in Herne Bay, this family business launched in 2015, making a delicious range of oat based crackers which are both wheat & dairy free.  Collaboration is a key part of the business and the Kentish Ale & Rosemary crackers are made using Goody Ales’ “Good Lord” whilst the Warm Chilli use Kentish Oils’ Rapeseed Oil blended with Chilli.  Also in the range are Sea Salt & Black Pepper and Chive & Chia.

Kent Crisps
Another example of a Kent business working hard to champion fellow producers along with Kent landscapes & landmarks, Kent Crisps’ flavours all use real products & producers to give a local twist to British favourites.  The Ashmore Cheese & Onion flavour uses cheese from Jane of Cheesemakers of Canterbury, producers of Chaucer’s Camembert mentioned above and the newest addition to the range is a delicious collaboration with Pork & Co giving a Ham & Mustard flavour which is full of meaty flavour with a little mustard kick.  Available in 40g bags with selected flavours in 150g sharing bags; Kent Crisps will sit well behind the bar in food led pubs and are a must on farm shop shelves.

Zingiberri Cookies
Zingiberri’s chunky cookies are presented in attractive retail packs and are fabulous to enjoy on their own or even better to accompany a hot drink.  Hand baked in small batches, the cookies are available in a choice of flavours: Goji Berry & White Chocolate, Oat & Honey, Oat & Raisin and Pecan & Maple Syrup.  A great local alternative to mass produced biscuits, with an artisan, hand made appearance and tasty flavours.

Sauces & dressings
Harrington Foods’ Quiddity & Benenden Sauce
A family business which was established in Benenden, from which the sauce takes its name, both Quiddity and Benenden Sauce are made in small batches to a secret recipe.  It’s unlikely that you will have tasted anything like Benenden sauce, which is sweet, slightly garlicky and quite addictive and like Quiddity, is made using no artificial ingredients so needs a good shake before use. Both are versatile, though Quiddity is best used as a salad dressing whilst Benenden Sauce is great as a dressing, marinade, dipping sauce or simply over cheese on toast or a jacket potato.

Kentish Oils new herb blends
Celebrating their 10thanniversary in 2018, Kentish Oils newest additions to their range of cold pressed rapeseed oils are their herb blends, Garden Mint, Rosemary & Basil.  Made using specially selected rapeseed, which is then pressed, filtered & bottled by hand, the new herb blends may be used with meat, fish, salad and many other dishes and provide a simple way to add extra flavour.  Along with the rest of the range, gift boxes are also available, ideal for the approaching festive season.

Drinks
Kingsdown Water & Pressés
With a growing demand for non-alcoholic drinks, it’s more important than ever to be able to provide soft drink options both in restaurant & pubs situations as well as on farm shop & deli shelves.  Kingsdown’s pressés are made using just spring water and natural juices, with a light sparkle to create a drink which is refreshing, full of flavour and without any hidden nasties.  The full range, including still & sprakling water, is packed in glass, meaning that they provide a solution for those looking to cut down on single use plastic.

Curd & Cure are members of Produced in Kent, a membership organisation which works to promote Kent food & drink and work with many fellow Produced in Kent members both as suppliers as well as customers.  For more information on Produced in Kent & how to become a member head to their website at www.producedinkent.co.uk

With the summer holidays underway and the heatwave arrived, it is most definitely the time to get outdoors, roll out the picnic rugs & enjoy the sunshine (or a cool shady spot, perhaps!).  Summer eating is all about no-cook meals, sharing with friends & family and enjoying time together with good food & drink.

We’re big picnic fans here at Curd & Cure and have all the essentials needed to pull together an impressive spread with minimum effort; perfect whether you’re looking to create an enticing farm shop or deli display or putting together a picnic box to be enjoyed in the pub garden or as a takeaway add-on to a café or coffee shop offering.

We’ve pulled together some of our favourite products with a few of our top tips to get the most out of picnicking over the Great British summer:

1. It will come as no surprise that the first thing we reach for when it comes to prepping for a picnic is cheese!  Try to pick a variety of different cheeses; cheddar style, blue, soft and goats, for example, to give a range of tastes & textures to suit all palates.  When displaying in the chiller or cheese counter, why not curate an example picnic board to sow the picnicking seed and give customers a quick & easy way to pick out cheeses that would complement one another.

2. Cured meats give a more continental feel and by being creative with presentation (think prosciutto piled high, salami ‘flowers’ and chopped chorizo) this is an easy way to begin to build the spread.  Alternatively, add a slice or two of Gala pie, traditional home cured ham & salt beef for a very British picnic.

3. Simple snacks add additional flavour with minimal hassle.  Kent Crisps’ range all showcase Kentish landscapes & landmarks on their pack fronts, and so look attractive served as an open pack for everyone to dig in, or for something a little different, Snackling comes in two flavours, sea salt & smoked bacon, and is sure to be a firm favourite!

5. Stay hydrated – in the summer heat it’s easy to forget to drink as much water as is needed.  Make sure the fridge is well stocked and drinks are chilled and ready to go!  Kingsdown’s presses are our go-to drink for when the mercury starts to rise.  Made using lightly sparkling natural Kentish spring water blended with real fruit juice, their refreshing range includes Cloudy lemonade (serve with ice & a slice) and Elderflower sparkle (truly the taste of summer) to name just a couple.  For those looking to support a business with purpose, Karma Cola’s range comes in cans – great for on the go – as well as glass bottles and each sale gives something back to the Cola growing communities in Sierra Leone.  Place paper straws alongside your drinks chiller, giving a nod to the ever-growing demand for more eco-friendly products and creating an upsell alongside colourful paper plates in a farm shop setting.

6. Summer means salad!  There’s little better than a crisp salad made using fresh Kentish produce.  Add instant flavour by drizzling with a little Olive Branch Olive Oil, or pouring over Harrington’s strangely addictive Benenden Sauce.  Our new range of dressings from A Little Bit are all made using fresh herb and will add instant flavour, making it easier than ever to make even the simplest salad a little bit special.  Top off with some edible flowers to take your salad to the next level!

7. Picnicking without the preparation… Our range of Deli Tubs provide a quick & easy way to add coleslaw & potato salad to the mix, without having to spend hours making them.  Red cabbage coleslaw adds instant colour, whilst potato salad will always be a crowd pleaser.  Serve straight from the tub (which is resealable too, not that there’s likely to be anything left over!) or decant into a bowl to give a more homemade look.  For foodservice, our Luxuryslaw is available in 1kg tubs, and provides all the flavour without any fuss.

8. Carbs, carbs, carbs.  There’s no getting away from it, there really is no better vehicle for cheese & meats than a good chunk of bread.  Slather with butter (Netherend individual portions are the ideal size for a picnic box) and pile it high!  Our bakery section offers all the options you could need, including Italian ciabatta & tomato focaccia as well as more unusual Schioches; supplied frozen and ready to bake fresh to order.

9. Last, but by no means least, dips & toppings are a must.  Me too! hummus is available with 20% off throughout August and comes in 6 delicious flavours, great on bread or as a dip for crisps.  We’re loving Olive Branch’s tapenades, packed full of flavour and delicious as mini mouthfuls on top of GB Biscotti’s Jalepeño & Cheddar savoury biscotti, whilst England preserves’ Pear, Date & Ale chutney is a real taste of the English countryside and makes for a delicious accompaniment to cheese.

10. Presentation is everything.  It’s well known that customers buy with their eyes, and so by creating in-store displays which both are eye-catching but also prompt the thought of picnicking, you’re far more likely to inspire picnic themed purchases.  Group items together to encourage add-on buys – such as positioning cured meats adjacent to the cheese selection already mentioned, deli tubs and hummus in the same section.  Use prompts as the customer moves around the shop “Perfect for picnics”, “Enjoy al fresco”, “why not try x dip with your crisps”.  Also make sure the whole team are fully on board – identify some key products which would be good to upsell alongside one another and give customers recommendations.  People buy from people too!

From a foodservice point of view, it’s important that people understand what they are going to get – use visual prompts or perhaps display a sample picnic box.  Use of inventive names will also encourage buy in; “The Great British picnic box” or “Kent summer picnic hamper” will sound more attractive than just a “takeaway picnic box”.  Little touches will make all the difference; include some information on the products, package in a specific box or tray or if making a picnic to eat on-site, make sure that it’s presented attractively when served.  In a day where social media is such an integral part of day to day life, people are constantly looking for shareable moments and ‘instagrammable’ images. The hastag #picnic has over 6.3million uses on Instagram, whilst #picnicking has 16.4k uses, so make sure you are making the most of the opportunity that the exposure this sort of offering can bring!

For more help on choosing the best products for your picnic offering, our team are always on hand and will be more than happy to help pull together the perfect picnic selection for your outlet.  We always love to see your Curd & Cure displays, so don’t forget to share them with us on social media tagging @curdandcure.
