People & Planet

SUSTAINABILITY AT CURD & CURE

We recognise the impact our business has on our shared environment. People and planet sit at the heart of every decision we make, and as we grow we keep finding new ways to operate more efficiently and more responsibly.

Our Commitments

Five Areas Of Focus

01 —

DELIVERIES

We provide a wholesale consolidation service that increases supply-chain efficiency for independent suppliers, retailers and foodservice.

Route-optimisation software plans every delivery to keep food miles to a minimum, and we integrate supplier collections within our delivery rounds so each van is used to its fullest.

02 —

WAREHOUSE

Our shutter door is fitted with an automatic, sensor-operated cover, helping us maintain correct temperatures throughout the warehouse and minimise heat loss.

All of our forklifts are electric, and any unused wooden or plastic pallets are collected and sent on to be re-used elsewhere.

03 —

WASTE

By removing personal office bins we've encouraged everyone to separate and recycle their waste, cutting general waste production by 55%. We now recycle up to 90% of everything we throw away, including all our cardboard.

Mixed recycling and paper waste from the office, production unit and warehouse — including pallet wrap from goods-in — are all recycled. We send zero waste to landfill: our general waste is collected and incinerated as Waste-to-Energy, returning power back into the grid.

04 —

FOOD WASTE

As a food wholesaler, we know that real responsibility lies with us to keep our environmental impact to a minimum. We've implemented our own food-waste hierarchy that diverts as much edible food as possible at every stage before anything ends up in our food bin for anaerobic digestion.

05 —

COMMUNITY

We believe that we can learn from one another to build better, stronger businesses. That's why we choose to champion local and are committed to adding value to our community.

We work with Maidstone Council and the charity Time For The Homeless to distribute surplus stock to people living on the streets, in temporary accommodation, and through voluntary soup kitchens across Medway and Maidstone. We also support Kent's Plan Bee, an action plan to protect pollinators across the county — and have worked with LoCase Kent to complete their Steps Towards Environmental Management workshops.
