Royal Bassett Blue is a soft, indulgent blue cheese named after the nearby town of Royal Wootton Bassett, just a few miles from Brinkworth Dairy. A true labour of love, it takes around three weeks to develop and requires constant care. It’s an excellent introduction to blue cheese — even for those who usually steer clear — small, perfectly formed, and irresistibly moreish.
Handles bold pairings beautifully. Try with a Shiraz for blackberry and pepper notes, or a powerful Barolo to cut through the creamy richness.
Serve alongside finely sliced cured meats, pâté, or salami.
Slice through the rough, mushroomy rind to reveal a buttery, creamy interior delicately veined with blue and green moulds.
Aromas of houmous and celery lead to a flavour profile that is fresh yet indulgent.
Unlike a crumbly Stilton-style blue, this cheese is closer in style to Dolcelatte or Gorgonzola, smooth, rich, and luxurious. It has enough depth to satisfy blue cheese lovers while remaining balanced and approachable.
